Oregon’s oldest assisted living property is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Owner Walt Bowen had no idea he’d become a trail blazer of the industry when he established Regency Park Assisted Living and Memory Care in 1989. He wanted to create a comfortable home with first class amenities for seniors to live in when they retired.

Regency Park Assisted Living is hosting a party and open house Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. welcoming neighbors, families of current and past residents, city officials from Beaverton and Portland and builders who remember what the property was like when the doors opened 25 years ago.

Baby boomers are changing the face of retirement every day and Regency Park completed a $1 million remodel to keep up with the times, creating a grand foyer, custom bar & bistro area, upgrades in the dining room and re-landscaped patio. Its West Hills location off Highway 26 provides easy access from any direction.

Factor in the health care aspect and Regency Park is catapulted to the top of the list because seniors are embracing the concept of living independently at an assisted living property in part because of onsite medical backup. Regency Park Assisted Living and Memory Care employs a registered nurse, medical aides and caregivers who check on residents throughout the day, something not traditionally found at an independent living property.

With more seniors developing dementia, Regency Park’s Kingswood Court Memory Care is seeing an increase in residents and families researching for their parents’ future. Regency Park is one of the top properties to care for these residents, with specially trained aides in this dedicated area. One of Regency Park’s original programs, called “Illuminations,” has been recognized as an industry first in Senior Living Executive Magazine.
